“WEDNESDAY IN THE WORD” January 17, 2024
BE READY TO BE AMAZED AGAIN
“Let us hold fast to the confession of or hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.”
Faith is a gift to relax into and receive confidence from Jesus. Faith is trust with a deeper meaning. Faith is investing in or trusting the totality of our lives to God. It’s what some theologians refer to as relaxing in the presence of someone whom we’re confident is fond of us.
Faith must be followed with actions that are consistent with what is believed. Faith is the noun form and believe is the verb form of the same Greek word. Faith is the ability to believe, but that ability must be used and acted upon for faith to come alive an work. Believing is the action side of faith — believing is “acting in faith.” Just having faith is not enough. Having the ability to believe is not enough. One must act on that ability by acting consistently with what is believed. James 2:17 tells us that faith without corresponding actions is lifeless and dead. Actions are needed to bring faith to life.
If in this season you experience havoc, let it not possess your heart and mind or distort your humanity. These forces might not leave without a fight but put your faith into the One who can do battle for you and has full control.
God has everything to do with us, even maybe especially when we’re at our worst. When the shadows overwhelm us, when the demons shriek the loudest, when the hope of liberation feels like nothing more than fantasy—that is when Jesus’ authority brings the walls down. God does not abandon us.
Faith is the foundation of your life in Christ. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts! ( 1 John 5:10a) But of course, there’s more! You’ll need faith for every, single, tiny thing you’ll ever face in your life from the moment of your salvation until the day you die. And yet, if you’re honest, you don’t always feel strong while you’re looking for God to manifest his promises, provision and power. Although waiting is surely tough, if you remember that God is faithful, you’ll do much better during your waiting season. “They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength.” (Isaiah 40:31)
In this difficult season you or I may be walking through, God is faithful and offers recovery. Be Ready to be Amazed Again! Encounter a capacity of holy amazement. Surrender to freedom that Jesus offers. Then in the likeness of Jesus, speak words of loving, healing authority to a world that longs for an astonishing encounter with the divine. Tell how amazing Jesus is in your life. Amen!
