WEDNESDAY IN THE WORD May 17, 2023
“Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5 NKJV
With every passing day it appears that our lives are getting to be more and more challenging. I’m sad to say that it’s becoming difficult to answer the phone, because if it’s not a solicitor, it is a friend or family with news that’s hard to deal with or saddens my heart. I know that the Lord is aware of everything that’s happening in our lives, we are the only ones who are surprised by any unexpected news we received. I want to encourage each of us to study the Word of God daily. Noticing the message that’s in it for whatever ails or concerns us. When life suddenly takes a completely different path, God will show us that holding on to the plans and our story is not what we must do. Instead, we must Trust Him to direct our paths.
Psalm 37:5 commands us to, “Commit your way to the LORD, Trust in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” David calls us to take delight in the Lord and to commit everything we have and do, to Him. That means to entrust our ALL to Him, our lives, families, jobs, and possessions to His Control and Guidance. It means believing that he can care for us better than we can ourselves. Therefore, we should wait patiently to work out what is the very best for us.
King David instructs us to trust in God and not ourselves, to produce the outcome. When Jesus spoke to His disciples in Luke 9:23-27, He laid out what it means to follow him. The first step was to deny themselves, or relinquish personal control over their lives. This is the same message for us too. The idea of “letting go and letting God” is difficult and countercultural. We all struggle with surrendering our lives completely to God for fear of not getting what we want out of life. But the good news is that surrender brings more freedom, purpose and fulfillment than striving and controlling ever could.
Because God created us and loves us, we can trust the He has a better outcome for our lives than we could ever imagine. Because God knows all and sees all, we can trust that even if our stories don’t turn out the way we originally thought, He is a redeemer who works all for our good and His Glory (Romans 8:28). So, when we offer our lives as a living sacrifice in surrender to God, we can rest assured that God will act in accordance with the goodness of His heart and the promises in His Word. Then, we will understand that we are free not to have it ALL under control, because we serve a God who does. I pray that the Lord will release us from the death grip that we have on controlling our situation, and instead surrender to His Will and Way. His Word promises that when we commit our lives to Him, He will act on our behalf. As we all face the unknowns in our life, let us walk by Faith, even when we can’t see God’s hand, let us Trust His heart, and the Love that He has for us. Amen!
