WEDNESDAY IN THE WORD – MAY 22, 2024

“God’s Truth Is Active”

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In Him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.”

Ephesians 2:19-22 NRSV

As members in the family of God, our faith journey is lived in response to Christ’s love for us. “Love one another. As I have loved, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples” (John 13:34-35). As ambassadors of Christ, we treat others not for what they deserve or who they are, but by God’s boundless love that transcends human understanding. Our response to his love further shapes how we participate in all matters, offering comfort, guidance, and unselfish kindness.

So what does this have to do with all matters? Everything. It is the unity we hope for will only come in final form when God finishes ushering in the Kingdom, where “each person shall sit under their own vine and their own fig tree, and no one shall make them feel afraid anymore.” (Micah 4:4). Then we are brought together in fellowship with God, speaking the truth in love, not holding selfishly onto God’s love, no longer in fenced community of favoritism…instead fellowship in unity.

Our basic purpose remains determined by what God has done for us. God demonstrated his own love for us all, “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us: (Romans 5:8). This means if our spiritual attitude is one of response to God’s loving actions, then our overall attiitude must be one of proclaiming God’s loving actions to a world in need of good news. Assuch, our status is not as citizens of earthly nations, but as citizens in God’s Kingdom, living for that day when God’s love is what unites humans together. Our aim should look like this: We are to live in this life for the sake of the Good News of Jesus Christ, being all things to all people, living in peace, being unified in diversity, equality, and inclusivity.

As ambassadors of God’s Kingdom, we proclaim reconciliation to all who long for the love that will never evaporate, the righteousness that will never corrupt, the good shepherd who always brings the lost lamb home. We, becoming reconciled in truth, we mature as loving ambassadors as God intends us to be. Amen.
