When we become Christians many new believers and some old ones as well, believe that life will or should be a “Flowery Bed of Ease.” However, that is absolutely Not True! We live in a world that says, everything should be perfect and should go according to our personal plans. But life doesn’t work that way. Many people think that when God comforts us, our troubles will automatically disappear. But if that were true, we would turn to God only out of a desire to be relieved of our pain and suffering, and not out of our Love for Him.
The gospel of John 16:33 states, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have troubles. But take heart, I have overcome the world.” (NIV). We must understand that being Comforted, means receiving strength, encouragement and hope from God and others, so we are able to cope and deal with our troubles.
Second Corinthians 1:4 explains an even better relief: “God comforts us in ALL of our troubles, so that we can comfort those (others) in any trouble, with the same comfort we ourselves have received from God.” This verse lets us know that life and its challenges can overwhelm us, yet we can remain encouraged. In the midst of our struggles, God is right there offering the comfort we need to get through each situation. He’s preparing us to comfort others in the future. Notice that God has also placed in our lives others who have been through the same painful and embarrassing situations. Also, we must remember that God shares in our suffering and in our Comfort. In the midst of:
· ^ That Relationship that seems too Broken to Fix
· ^ That Diagnosis that seems too Much to Bear
· ^That Assignment that seems too Burdensome to Carry
· ^ That Incident that seems to have left you too Bruised to Continue
· ^ That Call that seems too Sacred for you to Answer
Remember, the more we suffer for the cause of Christ, the more comfort God gives. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by Physical, Mental, Spiritual and Emotional pain from your troubles, remind yourself that the trials you endure will help you to be able to comfort others who are suffering from similar troubles. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore, encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.” This can only be done if we keep our Focus on God, embracing His comfort and trusting the process and the work that He is doing in and through us. And we know that He’s working ALL things together for His Glory and our Best Good, (Romans 8:28). In Jesus’ Holy name. Amen.
