‘LOOKING FOR DIRECTION IN LIFE”
“Your Word is a Lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105 NIV
How many times in life do you just wish that you knew the “right” thing to do? In every arena of your life, what job to take, who to marry, what religious affiliation shoud I be a part of? These are life changing decisions that we all have to make at some point in our lives. When it comes to making decisions, it’s often easy to ignore what this Bible verse tells us. It says the Bible is a lamp to guide our feet and a light for our path. This verse tells us that when we don’t know what is the right choice is, we should rely on God’s word for help. God’s word can be the answer to your questions. It can be the light to show you which path to take.
Psalm 119 is one long celebration of God’s Word. The Psalmist celebrates the eternal truth and reliability of the Word of God, calling it a lamp to his feet. Knowing God’s Word does not make us God. It reveals the love, faithfulness, and power of the God we depend on. It teaches us an obedience that gives us confidence to walk with God on dark pathways, that are sure to come. To walk in the light, we must enter the small gate and stay on the narrow path.Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Therefore, avoiding darkness involves the daily choices of choosing to walk in the light of God’s Word.
The Psalmist of this text also declares, the “Word of God” is a lamp to his feet and a light to his path because the Word makes things clear and visible, so that we will not get tripped up or fall into the traps and snares of the enemy. Walking in the light means disconnecting from the darkness of situations, people, places, and things that hinders our clear vision. God through His Word will lead us in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake. You see the Word of God is the Christians life support, our sustaining power, our oxygen tank of turth, our feeding tube that sustains our souls, that leads to our guiding light and our eternal hope of Glory in Christ Jesus.
There is one thing we must know and believe, and that is only God’s Word can lead us in the path that God approves and chooses for us. Why? Because it is our compass, our guide, our helper, our deliverer, our peace, our joy, and our redemption. It is what this Word says that leads all of us who are saved out of our darkness into God’s marvelous light and into His everlasting and eternal promise to be with Him forever. To God be the Glory! Amen!
