The unity that enlarges the kingdom of God is not meant to be a unity that makes us all the same. Unity is not meant to impose the “melting-pot” mentality that destroys cultural, theological, and social distinctions. Rather, the unity of God’s kingdom celebrates the diversity of God’s creation. And that unity is motivation for encouragement where the Gospel calls for us to live into the diversity of God’s creation. This means that we are reconciled with faith, hope, love for a higher purpose – one that results in unity.
God’s unity comes from relating to one another inclusively, affirming each person’s expression of God in them and God with them. It is God’s call and prayer for us all to unite in mission—to release our worries. Listen and pray for and with each other. Because God knows every tragedy, every anxiety, every rough edge and broken promise we do not need to question where God is in the turbulent time. God is right in the center of it.
Still, when life is tiring, when you are beyond being tired, you’re exhausted from being exhausted, when justice is at risk, when finances are uncertain, when virtual learning and parenting is difficult, when working at home brings unexpected changes, when your health is in question, when the future is unsure, and when friend gatherings are nearly forgotten, it is easy to be discouraged. Discouragement is a thief. It steals your vitality, your zeal, your joy, peace, and contentment. If discouragement dwells long with you, its friends will soon join. Their names are fatigue, hopelessness, despair, self-pity, depression, doubt, and bitterness. Rather than be discouraged be strong draw strength from these three friends: Faith Hope, and Love. It is through the glory of Christ that he came to share fully in what it means to be human.
This is God’s intentional plan. God requires us to love each other as Christ loves. With this love, we give thanks, show love, be forgiving, and serve faithfully. May our continuing relationship with God increase and faithfully in the spirit of unity so the world sees Christ’s love. Increase fellowship while serving in God’s purpose. Christ is love. His Love Has a Higher Purpose for All!
Amen
