“WEDNESDAY IN THE WORD”

“SILENCE AND SOLITUDE WITH GOD”
“I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.”
Psalm 62:1-2 NLT
We live in a loud world. There is noise from our phones and computers, our schedules, our worries, and even our good intentions. For our children, noise may come from screens and school pressures. For adults, it’s deadlines, responsibilities, and expectations. For seniors, it can be the noise of memories, concerns about health, or the changing peace of life.
In Psalm 62, David gives us a simple but powerful truth: “For God alone my soul waits in silence.” Notice David doesn’t say his schedule waits, or his mouth waits, but his soul waits. David expressed his feelings to God and then reaffirmed his faith. Silence with God is not just about quiet rooms; it’s about a quiet heart that rests in Him.
Silence and Solitude are not escapes from life; they are invitations to trust. When we stop striving before God, we are reminded that God is our Rock, not our achievements, not our strength, not our control. In silence, we stop talking long enough to remember just who God is and who we are not. Trusting God to be our rock, salvation and fortress will change our entire outlook on life.
For the young, silence teaches us that God listens even when we don’t have all the words. For those in the middle of life, it reminds us that we don’t have to carry everything alone. And for those seasoned in faith, it becomes a sacred space where God’s Peace speaks louder than any fear we might have to face.
David says, “I shall not be shaken.” Not because life is calm, but because God is steady. Silence with God re-centers our faith. It anchors us when the world feels unstable. Even a few moments each day before the phone, before the news, before the noise, can remind us that salvation, strength, and hope comes from God alone. Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is simply “be still” and let God be God. What is one noise, distraction, or worry you can lay before God today, so your soul can rest in his silence? Think about it. Then thank Him for being your Salvation. Lord, teach us to wait on You in silence, to trust You as our Rock and Refuge. Help every generation among us find rest in your presence. Amen.
